Could be weak strike of could be struck through a bunch of grease. Did you weigh it - probably not relevant, I'm just curious.

So it's post '82. As I look at it more, there seems to be an odd color difference in those areas that look "poorly struck". A lack of luster compared with areas right up to the rims. I just can't imagine someone abrading away the date and most of LIBERTY without getting into the zinc. Once the zinc is exposed, rot is on the way. So I'm sticking with struck through instead of PMD.

As I look at the date it looks like a 1996 but I can see a 2 in between the 9 and 6. It's pretty crazy. If it is a two then it is also a Close AM. Just a note I observed. No way to know unless I have it graded. But when do you decided to do that? And is this one worth it?

It is a Struck Through Grease. Not worth a TPG. A weak strike would have a weak or even a missing rim, your coin has a rim.Looks like a 1996 to me. John1

to the forum! Like John said, it is a struck through filled die error. A pretty nice one really. Sometimes there will only be one letter or number filled in. The examples showing a lot of missing detail, like this one, sometimes bring a few dollars on ebay. I have seen some that show little to no details at all. Nice find! EDIT: Along with the full rims, a weak strike will affect boths sides. This coin has a well struck reverse side. Another thing to look for when trying to determine if a coin is a weak strike or not, is to look at the highest details on the coin, the deepest parts of the die like Lincoln's profile.
