I have been going through some Ikes collected from circulation in the 70s. A lot of them were from when my Grandfather and I would go to the bank and ask them if they had any.

I mention this b/c I am wondering just how hard it normally is to get varieties.

As an example. I went through a roll of mostly 74-Ds. When done, the roll had three DDO with RPMs,and four total DDRs that are distinctly different types. One of these also is a DDR & RPM.

So is this typical, or is it just that these are examples of where the bank gave US coins that had been minted together and stayed together until distributed to us at the bank?

Also - what kind of interest is there in these? None are MS.

Also got a 74 Talon head out of them. How important is this to collectors?

A main reason I am asking is that I would hate just to dump these, but likely will be getting rid of some Ikes eventually b/c I see no need to keep a circulated roll.

Earle42-there ar lots of IKE collectors, many here. Being one of them and I suspect other IKE collectors are always on the chase for all the varieties, DDO's, etc. How hard is it to get the varieties, I've had my hands on 4-5k in the last few years and have not found them all yet. As far as how many commons you should keep, personal preference. I have several varieties-talon head, moonline, etc. and WAY more than I should keep but I like them. If you want to dump them, particularly the varieties, you might post them on the sale/trade threads here. I suspect there will be several members interested. As for the commons, my grandkids think they are cool so they usually have one or two in their pockets after a visit. Oh yea, my interest in IKE's, I was born the day he was elected Prez.

What list do you use to know all the various RPMss etc. I did not see where variety vista had any RPms listed for 74 D and I got three of them.

I use a book titled: The Authoritative Reference on Eisenhower dollars as well as the site for THE IKE GROUP.

I would agree that there are plenty of Ike collectors on here that would like to see your coins get posted for sale here vs a dump at the bank. There are those that save every Ike they can from the wild, common or noncommon :)

I was not thinking when I used the word "dump" as typically being associated with taking them to a (GASP - these are IKES!) bank. I don't believe I could even cash these Ikes in at a bank.

I was using the term dump (unwisely) in context of saying that in the in the future I may be looking to use their numismatic value (even just the common ones) towards eliminating bulk and focusing on a few keys/semi-key dates (a 38-D Walker comes to mind) in other series.

Eventually when I get through them and get take pics of the varieties, I will put them here on CCF for opinions, perusal etc.

I have to admit that the varieties are not really important to me at all, at least not the minor ones.

I built my Ike collection to fill the Dansco 8176, which only acknowledges the two varieties for the bicentennial issues. It does not acknowledge the three 1972 varieties, but I do have two of them: V3 in the 1972 hole and V1 in one of the extra holes. (This was a happy accident as they were put there before I even knew about their existence.)
