Hi all

I have, like many others, collected the isle of man angel coins, a very long process to get all of the 1 oz angel coins... silver, reverse, gold, gold/platinum, gold/silver, gold, gold UHR, gold reverse UHR, even the henry 8th gold coin with platinum angel, etc.

what has always eluded me however, was the INCUSE 1 oz gold angel, until lately... waited about a year or so, govmint.com were the only authorized distributers, they had two, a 69 and a 70 at crazy prices, I think the 69 was at about $4,000, the 70 was about $6,000.

nuts to that.

finally, one came up on ebay with a reasonable starting price, nobody else bid. oh, you want to see the listing?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Limited-edi...p=true&rt=nc

so that is that, as they say. I can now say that I have EVERY variation of the 1 oz angels, in any metal(s). still trying to figure out how that will help me in life, but perhaps coin collecting does not have to make complete sense... the hunt for all the angels took years and years (without getting totally screwed on the price, I passed all of those... I tried to buy them on the cheap)

victory at last... mike

Congratulations! There's no better feeling than getting the piece you want at a good price. And that is a good price.
Rest in Peace

Really great deal. The numismatic gnomes must have been helping you out with that price. Congratulations.

thanks. the weird part was that both the 69 and 70 coins on gov.mint.com sold out almost immediately after they were listed. the incuse silver angels kinda are funny on their price ranges, I bought a graded one at $140 but have seen them as high as $250 or more, graded and otherwise.

note that the gold incuse I bought was an auction at the opening bid price, not a "buy it now" listing. I cannot figure out why nobody else bid on it. The seller is no doubt thinking the same thing. Personally, if I was interested in a profit, I would have just listed it at a crazy high buy it now price and it would have sold eventually.

I think it goes to show you that one can get lucky on ebay, altho I think it is somewhat of a crapshoot to buy ungraded coins from there, especially those that have a reputation for counterfeits, which the angels have never had to my knowledge. even an experienced seller with a good reputation or feedback can unknowingly let a counterfeit slip by by accident. From what I have seen, the decent sellers go through great pains to immediately make things right, as they were problably victims themselves when they bought the counterfeits.

Without being political, I hope that with the new administration that fake or counterfeit coins laws enforcement receive more of a priority or enforced more aggressively than it seems to be getting now. I think that it is safe to say that if gold really goes up as many goldbugs say will happen (who knows, I am not counting on it), or if there is a change regarding the gold standard, that enforcement will be more of a priority. Who knows, maybe not, agents flying to China on a regular basis will get pretty expensive, and that is providing that China will cooperate...

sorry for that little mini-rant. if everything I wrote is dumb, set me straight. I have a pretty thick skin.

thanks to all who responded. yes, I even have a palladium angel... mike

Don't know about you, but I usually get a really satisfied feeling when I complete something I've been working on for a long time. Not just once, but every time I look at the result. That's one of life's pleasures to me, that feeling. So, there you have it.

thanks to all. this might sound crazy, but I sometimes think about that my entire collection would be inherited by either ungrateful and unknowing-or-caring-about-coins relative, as I do not intend to sell any of it ever.

what about some of you guys who are kinda getting up there like I am? is it your intent to do a HA or massive ebay listings before you, uh, pass away, so that you can go around the world or see the pyramids or something, or to let them go to, hopefully, one of your kids, grandkids or nieces or nephews who would appreciate and keep the coins?

Very nice coin .... and ..to me .. always nice completing a collection.

------------------

I do wonder about my collection. Right now my plan is to start selling
when I start collecting social security. I guess to give me something
to do .. and to see how well I did on my buying.

I will keep a good amount to pass down.

Despite hoping I'll be around to annoy all of you for a few more decades, I have made some precautions to assure things are taken care of. I made a few lists with the more expensive coins, the silver and gold coins and what's not on those is generally 'rubbish' or face value. I have done so for other collections than just the coin collection, too!
