The mark behind the head looks to be from die damage but not a die crack. Something got between the die and a planchet on an earlier strike and impressed that mark on the die. Thereafter dimes struck from that die would have that mark.
I agree that the reverse suffered a die clash. Look at the heavy die scratches in the field areas from 12 to 6. Also notice that there's no apparent scratches on the devices which pretty much says the coin wasn't abrasively cleaned. Points to the die being re-polished at the Mint.

Nice find!  I can also see some heavy abrasion marks where the rest was polished away.

I agree with Mox, not many people look closely at 1964-D Roosies.

I have a few rolls of unc 1964's and some time on hand so I looked through them. Konga what's the difference between these one and the spiked heads in COC where I already have a Mercury dime listed?

I have a lot of 1964 dimes .... never thought about checking for clashes.
