I was wondering if there is a way to tell if a coin that has significant damage,Happened while is was being struck or post strike? I've been going through my coins and found a couple that are questionable. So I figured this would make a good discussion. Thanks in advance and have a good one!
P.S. I hope this is in the right forum!

I highly suspect that was caused by some wire cutters, PMD

I thought that as well also, But then I looked at the edges. They appear to be rolled in or squished if you will. That is what led me to think this might be strike damage. The whole yes, But then when you add the squished sides top and bottom. I thought maybe it could be mint damage.

to the forum! I would be interested to know the weight of this coin, and would like to see some other images of it. Maybe get some straight on shots. The details on the date and UNUM have my curiosity up.

I can't tell for sure what is going on with it. It looks as if it may have been melted with a small torch. The small blob on the reverse side appears to be higher than the details, which would mean it wasn't there when the coin was struck. The rim looks as if it has been moved towards the center, which doesn't add up to a normal planchet. That with the rough surface in the area on both sides leads me to believe this happened after it was minted. An interesting piece, but I don't believe it's a mint error.

I do appreciate the thoughts. This coin just seemed weird to me so I figured I'd post. The blob on the reverse is actually lower than the detail.I have more damages to post later today. One in particular is weirder than this one.At least to me anyway.

One more question. I have about 10 coins to post. Should I put them all in one or separate posts? Thanks
