Many thanks in advance to anyone who can identify. I'm sure its genuine, came to me from a reputable auction house with some other nice coins such as Reals etc.

Firstly, the year is either 1628 or 1686, if somebody could tell me the exact date that would help.

It is described as a Malta 6 Tari, I'm pretty sure this is a Maltese coin with the writing Concordia Res Parvae Crescent.

It measures 27mm in diameter and weighs exactly 4.4 grams.

I feel like it could be worth quite a lot, I hope :D

Having researched a bit further, could it be a 6 Stuiver? Netherlands?

Looking at Krause, your coin is a 6 stuiver from the Netherlands.

I agree with @anaximander as to the denomination and country. It is definitely a 6 Stuiver from 1686 AD Netherlands. However, it isn't clear to me which specific city state has that shield (which by the way does look quite a bit like Malta's).

Utrecht! The attribution is Krause #KM 60.3.

I just want to revive this thread, because I am gathering coins up to send to a TPG, probably PCGS. I'm unsure if this one would be worth sending to be slabbed. I prefer having slabbed coins, I'm just wondering if it would be worth it as an investment, or a bit of a waste of money? Unsure on the coins value really.

It's a rider shilling (rijderschelling) from Utrecht, a pretty common coin from one of the common years, and not very valuable. Price range for one in this quality is 15-30 euro. Slabbing it would not add to the value - slabbed coins are not that popular for Dutch provincial coins, especially not for less than MS. So in my opinion you'd be wasting your money.

On this page you can see the prices one Dutch online coin shop sold similar coins for: http://muntprijzen.nl/index.php?id=...nominatie=67

Thanks qxy.

I'll keep it raw. Interesting that they fetch so little, considering how old they are. There must have been so many!
