I've begun CRH for Lincoln cents, to fill out two Whitman albums (1909 - 1995) and (1996 - Present). Compared to most on here, I haven't searched many rolls - about 20 sourced from a couple different banks. There's been a pretty good distribution of years. I've pulled about 6 Wheaties from the 40s/50s, and even amounts from all newer decades.

However, what I *haven't* found, is 2009 Bicentennial Cents. Not a single one. I've gotten a lot of early 2000's Memorials, and a LOT of Shields, but no Bicentennials. Are they actually rare, or have I just not encountered them yet? The mintage numbers suggest that they're not rare at all. Are people hoarding them?

Thanks,
-Joe

to CCF. They are not rare but can be hard to find. Most people keep them when they do find them and it also depends where in the country you are. Keep looking, that's part of the fun of CRHing.

Joe and yes, I think a lot of people are holding on to them but keep searching.
They are out there.

Most are pretty common ... LP 1 and LP 2 are seen more than LP 3 and LP 4.

I have always thought non collectors hold on to the coins that are different.
Bicentennial's, SBA's and 1943 cents are/were saved in large amounts.

I am sure I have hundreds of 2009's I am sure there are many thousands
of people that have more than I do.

to the Community!

They are pretty uncommon around here, but do turn up very occasionally. As GR58 said, the first two are a lot more common than the later two.

Thanks for the feedback!
The answer is to just keep going, I guess, and start getting full boxes to search - first, I need to open an account at what will be my dump bank.

Gotta say, of all my hobbies, this one is becoming the most addictive!

Guilty as charged. I have at least 1,500 stashed away. My old job got two solid boxes of P LP-2's, and I was able to get about a thousand in unbroken rolls, plus a few hundred loose. I saw people on ebay who had literal piles of boxes; some poor schmucks were paying up to $350 per $25 box.

When you drop that kind of money, it must be hard to ever admit that you made a mistake. I doubt that they will ever sell those boxes at a loss, let alone dump them for face.

I do see LP 1, 2, and 3 pretty regularly. I have only ever found like 5-10 LP-4; those ones had about half the mintage of the others.
Rest in Peace

I also admit to hoarding them . I have about 120 OBW rolls
LP-1 to LP-4 ,P's & D's. I also have about 25 Mint wrapped rolls that I bought at coin shows for between $1 and $2 a roll .

I had similar experience. I'd say I went through 2 boxes without seeing any. I did eventually find them all. I don't think I searched more than 10-12 complete boxes before I slowed down

The hardest ones to find are the ones with the Capitol building reverse as they have significantly lower mintages than the others. The 2009-Ps in particular are challenging, especially on the West coast.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

When CRH with pennies.

I remove all 2009's they're not going back into circulation.
Yes some people like me are hoarding them.

Wow some guys say they have rolls. I am luck if I've 30 cents
worth of 2009's.

Gotten all of them however the birth/early years is the most
predominate. The other 3 minted are tough to find.

So keep all of your 2009's.

* as a side note I've never seen a 2009 dime or nickel in pocket
change and have yet to find one. However found (3) 2009 quarters.

Usually find 2 to 4 2009 cents in a box mainly L1 and L2 some are pretty nasty already and they go back to the wild. Just found a 2009 P dime in change this week first in a while.

I use to see some in really almost uncirculated condition. Now I see them dirty and in bad condition.
