Last year I bought a roll of uncirculated 1955 D pennies but only just recently had time to go through them. I noticed that about 33 of the 50 coins had this weak strike area on the upper left portion of the O in the word One and the PL in Pluribus were weaker at bottoms. A few had die cracks over the dot between the E and P in pluribus. Is it common or is there any value? I add a few of the better shown errors for clrification. Apologies in advance for poor photos.
to CCF!! I would say the coins were struck by a die that was abraded a bit. That would cause the O to be a bit weaker. The die cracks unless in a certain location or being a Retained Cud or IBD would not make a premium. For value, I would say an average Mint state coin of that date would go for 1-2 dollars
This is common on wheat cents. Notice a little ghosting on the rev. the area of the O is where the shoulder is on the obv. The shoulder takes a lot of material to fill in so it has to take it from the rev.
Also you have to factor in the strike is strongest opposite this area. So it is normal to see a weakness on the the 'O' on ONE. Reverse is showing Progressive Indirect Design Transfer (PIDT) On Memorial cents as well.
