Hello to everyone! I've always been interested in coins, but being only 31, I haven't had much of a chance to explore it. I found a small collection of various coins belonging to my wife's late grandfather that was in a storage shed wilting under the conditions. So, I decided to bring it all inside and peruse it while restoring as much as I could to a more proper collection. There is a variety, including quite a few wheat cents, many with errors, and a wide variety of foreign coins from many countries and eras that I'm still making my way through. Sooooo....I may have quite a few questions in the future. I look forward to being a part of the community! Stay tuned. Watch out for PVC plastic! They will eat your coins!
Also, try coin roll hunting if you want!
Don't clean the coins you have, that will reduce their value to a tenth or worse - nothing!

As far as cleaning, the only things I've considered are a mild soap and water bath and the MS-70 cleaner. So far the only thing I've used is a dry microfiber cloth. One of my main goals was to get them out of the old, yellowed cardboard flips with rusted staples. I'm some cases, there was so much build up between the coin and plastic, I couldn't possibly identify the coin. I'm just hoping that careless storage hasn't destroyed the collection!

DO NOT CLEAN COINS. Learn a lot and ask MANY questions first. What you casually do now will destroy any value they may have. to CCF!

, To CCF , Sounds like you have a lot of conservation to do . First thing is to get all coins out of their holders . use Acetone first then Verdi-care on copper . all other coins use just Acetone ,when all coins are free from contaminants ,verdigris ,dirt ,then reholder them in non PVC holders . other members will probably chime in with their own suggestions for you . Good luck with your new collection .
