Just wait until he walks into a local coin shop with 86 lbs of gold. What do you do with 86 lbs of leaf anyway? Melt it into bars?

Sounds like this may have been a pickup of of gold scraps/dust/flakes from NYC jewelry district. Likely to be recycled. There are some interesting videos from gold panning hobbyists who actually collect sidewalk dirt from the NYC jewelry district to pan for gold and actually find It. Apparently gold dust and flakes will stick to jewelers clothing as they head out to lunch or home and it gets dislodged shortly after the jewelers leave their place of work.

You just wouldn't think that heavy of a bucket would be easy to walk off with.

I sometimes wonder about the gold, silver and other metal from coins and jewelry as they wear down to poor condition goes. In to the earth again or ?. I have never gave it much thought, but it went somewhere. Get a good idea and get well

You think maybe the guard and driver were in on it? Seems a bit coincidental that a professional thief just happened to be there in a 20 second window. Seems odd that they would leave the back open for even 2 seconds. But then I'm a skeptic.

On Thursday, Mr. Nivelo was caught in his native Ecuador, the police said. The fate of the gold flakes was unknown, and it was not clear what led to Mr. Nivelo's arrest. That is from the New York Times, see link below. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/...ry.html?_r=0
