Hi everyone, My son has been talking about Flying Eagle cents for quite some time now (since he already has Indian Head cents, Wheat Cents, etc...). So, for Christmas, we were going to surprise him with a Flying Eagle cent. Found one on ebay for $12, and it looked in decent shape. Have it in hand now, and I like it. Just curious if I did okay on the deal, if I failed and it's a fake, or anything else I should know.   I can't wait to see his face when he get it!

You did fine. My first older coin was 1857 Flying Eagle purchased "good grade" money when I was 10 years old back in 1998.

Awesome, thank you all for the feedback! No issues with authenticity either? Sounds like not, which is great. I've never bought an old coin on ebay, so I had my concerns.

Great gift. Doubt that many are faking heavy worn 1858 FEs for sale @$12. 1856 may be another matter.

Good job there, Dad. Be sure that your son gets a Red Book by Yeoman, so that he can learn about coins, too!
