I agree. Machine damage with a bit of Machine Doubling. Interesting to look at tho

Note on the 'R' on liberty? Do you see where that area is reduced in size. On hub doubling usualy several devices will be enlarged. Just machine damage after the strike. On the good side, you are finding something that looks interesting. On the back side, you eye hasn't identified it as flatting/reducing in stead of enlarging the size of the devices. while this may look like MD on these images, it is a DDR. Note that the devices are enlarged in size and the areas in question are not flat looking. Also the show the color change of light to dark. (flatten areas are all the same color as there is not contour on that area. The flatness is caused by the machine damaging the coin after the strike)

Unfortunately, yes. Note in the images how much wider the devices are? It looks like an add on to each device. On your coin is is a reduction on the devices affected.

as to being darker. One of these days I'll get it....lol
