Alright, I just got this USB Microscope/Camera yesterday.

Opti-Tekscope-Digital-USB-Microscope-Camera

Major points, it is very clear and has a wide focal range. This seems to be a very good scope. Especially for the cost of $77.00.

There are som detractors that are not hard to work around. So far the software seems to be limited. While in preview you can resixe the image window, but it distorts the proportions. You must readjust the proportions or carefully move the corner to resize.

The overall images are great. See below this is a Dime I pulled from yesterdays change:

I have one of these that I bought on Amazon last year. It works well for taking pictures, especially close-ups, although as you zoom out it loses some quality. All in all, it's a good buy.

Looks like it works well, especially for those close-ups. 200X magnification is amazing -- even at just 10X with a microscope objective and DSLR, it's not easy to get sharp results.

"200x" is not the optical magnification. It's the total magnification, including "display magnification". The sensors on these small USB microscopes are pretty small. Assuming a 4um pixel size, the 1600 x 1200 sensor is 6.4mm x 4.8mm. The 4.8mm, when viewed on a 23" monitor (508mm x 286mm), yields a "display magnification" of 286/4.8=59.6. So the optical magnification for this "200x" microscope would be 200/59.6=3.35:1. It's a bit disingenuous for the marketing folks at these USB microscope companies to claim "200x" when in fact the actual microscope magnification is only 3.35x, but that's how they are marketed.
