This 1842 Large Cent was lonely all the way over in the UK, so I'm bringing it back home.

Some circulation marks and nicks, but otherwise pretty decent. Small date variety, the slightly scarcer of the two. Thoughts on a grade?

Looks VF30. Hopefully the surfaces look good in hand.

It wasn't much money, so I'm not too worried if it turns out to be a bit rough. The shipping was actually fairly reasonable considering the distance it will have to travel to get here.

I'm in the VF-30 camp - and we are fixing Irish stew, too.

I would go VF-20 on this one. It has the overall look of a higher end VF, but it got some verdigris and mildly granular surfaces too. It's a decent piece, but the minor surface issues keep it from being choice for the grade.

the coin has VF30/35 Sharpness but as Bill stated the cleaning and surface granularity will downgrade it in the VF20 range
