Well it's spring and I've got the bug again. I was pretty heavy into metal detecting in the late '90's and early 2000's but haven't detected since. I did a lot of detecting in ghost towns in California and Nevada where I used to live, looking for old coins and artifacts. I also did a lot of detecting for gold nuggets in Nevada and Arizona.
Here's a list of metal detectors that I've owned and used.
Whites DI pro 5000
Whites Spectrum XLT
Whites Goldmaster V/Sat
Whites Goldmaster 3
Minelab XT 17000
Minelab XT 18000
Minelab SD 2000
Fisher CZ-7
Treasure Baron (can't remember the model)
Tesoro Lobo Super Trax
Tesoro Lobo
Tesoro Bandido II umax
Tesoro Diablo II umax

Anyway that's the ones I remember owning. Now my favorite of all these detectors for searching for coins was the Tesoro Bandido II umax. They don't make it anymore so I either find a used one or something similar with their new models. Anyone that's using any of the new Tesoro models I'd appreciate some feedback on any models that I can get for $400 or under. The reason I liked the Bandido II umax was that it was lightweight and it went reasonably deep. If anyone wants any feedback on any of the detectors that I've used listed above feel free to PM me or you can ask me here on this post.
Since I don't nuggetshoot anymore I will be listing my Whites Goldmaster V/SAT on ebay this weekend, it's in perfect condition and I am throwing in a new Sierra Gold Max coil and cover, new chest harness and a Goldmaster video.

My buddy just bought the Deleon. He hasn't had a chance to use it but about an hour one day, but from what he told me he thinks he is going to love it.

Me on the other hand, just bought a Garrett GTI 1500...which I am looking out the window for it to be delivered within the next hour via UPS.

I just bought the Tesoro Cibola, and I love it, as my earlier post on the forum has stated. It' has gone very deep for me (16"), and I find it very user friendly. The discrimination is very accurate, I slowly turn the dial while over a target and when the tone stops I know what I have found. I bought it for $340.00 on ebay and that included shipping. I have field tested it against a Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100, and a Garret 550 GTAx, and this is my prefference over the two. I have owned it for just over a week and I have found over 200 coins with it already. Check it out on metaldetectorreviews.net. It has the best reviews I could find, and I now know why.

I got a "middle of the road" White last fall.....not the best.....not the least....but I'm still excited to get out there with it!
The only thing I've found so far has been rifle shells and copper pipes......I've still got a lot of practice to do !
I found NOTHING at 4 different city parks in some small towns......so I'm kinda discouraged so far....but haven't given up by ANY means !

My Grandpa and Dad were heavily into metal detecting 30 years ago.....so I've always had the interest.....just never had a metal detector before. I think I've got good ideas on where to go and look.......but......hasn't panned out so far.....any suggestions from anyone? I'm in Topeka, Ks......population about 130,000.....city has been here since the mid 1800's.......
