Old-China-Coin---Fake?-Value?

Old-China-Coin---Fake?-Value?

Hi All,

I'm a new member as well as new to coin collecting. Was wondering if anyone out there can help me out with this coin - is this a real coin and what is its value?

Thanks in advance!

@nubie, first welcome to CCF! Second, you almost certainly have a fake (as so many posted on this forum are). The denticles on the first pic don't look right to me. Does your piece attract a magnet?

I agree it is a forgery - it is actually worth melt value for the metal it contains.

If it is magnetic it might be pure nickel and could be worth about 33 cents each but you would likely need a few hundred to find a scrap metal buyer. An alloy would be worth about $2 a pound or 13 cents each at most.

I buy these for $1 if it is a new type I have not seen before and 13 cents to remove individuals from the marketplace in bulk.

Hi all and thanks for the warm welcome and feedback. Yeah I tried the magnet test and that passed (didn't stick). Oh well, was a good thrill while it lasted :)

It is fake. You should google the coin before buying it.

If you get it from ebay, report it ASAP and ebay will help you to get the money back.

Good luck :)

I'm late in getting here, but yes, this is one of many fakes I've come across in documenting the many fakes coming out of China.
In this case, it's not hard to tell by looking at the picture.
