So today I went crazy with my nickels. I've organized $30 worth of nickels by the date and their magnetism.

2000-P-Nickel:-Rarely-Seen

I noticed a few things were odd, a couple 2006's were actually made of cupronickel, but quick research put them with a high mintage of 40 million.

Another thing I noticed is that in the pile of old-effigy magnetic nickels there was a lone 2000 P

I surrounded the 2000 P with 2000 no-Ps.
2000-P-Nickel:-Rarely-Seen

Turns out it's actually quite rare! Less then 4.9 million struck! It's made of plated steel as opposed to the cupronickel no-P's, making it magnetic.

I now toss these back, as I had several rolls pulled from hunting. also the 2001 no-p is about the same rareness, and I throw those back as well now.

the 2001 no-P's have a mintage of 30 million, which I think is significantly different from less than 4.9 million for 2000 P. I'll be hoarding these no matter how many I accumulate.

In about 20 rolls of nickels (800 total nickels), I've found 2 2000P and 1 2001 no P. I've held on to them as well since I don't CRH nickels often. I'm not sure how rare they are but from previous threads I've heard that plenty of people find them while CRH

i ignore the 2001 no-P, and I'll probably dump damaged 2000-P nickels back into circulation.

Hold on to the 2001 no Ps because with the ARP they will disappear from circulation. I don't think I've come across any cupronickel 2006s either in the past year.

I hold onto all the lower-mintage coins there are in circulation, what's the loss of doing so anyways?

Coin Chick nice, keep those for the future. All 'em lower dates will be hard to find with the hundreds of millions they're producing to replace those destroyed through the recycling program.
