Hello,
I just started collecting coins, I live in Nova Scotia in Canada. So far I've decided to focus on collecting silver dollars and circulating commemorative coins. I managed to get a few people getting rid of their sets for cheap, but unfortunately with only two coin shops nearby I find neither of them willing to give good trades to get what I want. Any tips on how to deal with coin shops would be great!

I've posted my answer on the other topic you opened on the same subject. It's usually best to wait to see what you get for responses before you post almost the same question again.

welcome to ccf yes I loved the silver dollars too, most commemorative I wouldn't buy any unless they were ms 60 and better. I think most of the stuff the mint puts out today I consider it garbage that's why I like the old reg coinage like the silver dollars.

Welcome crazyjax!
I am sorry, I don't have any tips on buying coins from shops - most of my collection to date is taken from circulation.
I would suggest that what ever you decide to focus on, buy a coin guide to establish a "base" value for anything you are seeking. If you know a base value, then you would be better armed to know if you're paying too much. I have observed antique type shops at the worst ones for trying to sell coins for well above book value - but I believe they get away with it, because people who generally buy coins from an antique shop rely on impulse buyers.
