Is it okay to cancel the transaction completely and skip the unpaid buyer process?
I sold a coin via auction that went for a third of its value. So far the buyer hasn't paid. I don't want to sell it at that price.

i believe you can click on cancel transaction, click on buyer requested or problem with buyers address. I am not sure if they can still leave feedback though.

I think that to be fair to the purchaser, you should follow the ebay protocol for the unpaid buyer. I do not want to sound critical, but if you weren't prepared to sell it for the auction price you got, you should have started it at a price you would sell it for or set a reserve price. Otherwise, what is the point of the auction, from the point of view of the bidder?

NO Quote: I sold a coin via auction that went for a third of its value. So far the buyer hasn't paid. I don't want to sell it at that price. That's how auctions work, Sometimes you win sometimes you loose. To "Renege" because you failed to put a reserve on a coin and it sold for less than you expected is very poor form. Just use the unpaid bidder option or risk loosing credibility.

Give the buyer the full time to pay. If they don't pay in that time, then you have every right to cancel the sale.
But doing so early is all kinds of not cool.

That is the best way to have your item not sell. Quote: Give the buyer the full time to pay. If they don't pay in that time, then you have every right to cancel the sale. This is what I am wanting to do. What time window are we talking about here? I thought 4 days was reasonable.

You have been patient for 4 days. I would wait another day or two.

Quote: That is the best way to have your item not sell. You are correct, but are you looking for lots of bids or quality bids? When you list stuff at low starting prices you attract the bargain hunters looking to make a quick flip. If you start the bidding closer to your acceptable price, you weed a lot of them out. Then the bids you get will most likely be quality bids from collectors not other dealers. Not as many bids this way, but they tend to be willing to bid higher. All you need is 2 quality bidders.

Like others have said, you can't be upset, there are ways to increase the minimum acceptable price. This is one of many reasons I avoid ebay altogether.

Quote: Like others have said, you can't be upset, there are ways to increase the minimum acceptable price. I had it as a BIN for a few months at what it was worth, but no one bit. I then needed the money, so I turned it into an auction. Quote: When you list stuff at low starting prices you attract the bargain hunters looking to make a quick flip. Not as many bids this way, but they tend to be willing to bid higher. All you need is 2 quality bidders. If you list a coin correctly, and if there is enough demand for it, you automatically get the "quality" bids. You need to have the auction end in the evening, have good pictures, and put as many of the most-frequent search terms in the title as possible. With US coins, I have never been disappointed with the final price, and I am often surprised what they go for. However, I use this method only "details" coins and coins that I deem are worth less than $10. HUGE colletor base for these. Plus when someone bids at the low price, they are more psychologically tied to winning the coin than if it was in the watch list. If the starting bid is high, then most people would skip the auction or put it in their watch list because they don't want to commit to a higher price up front. And I can assure you from my personal buying experience, I am much more likely to buy a coin I put a bid on than one in my watch list, even if they are the same price. The difference here is that This was a scarce Chinese coin that few people knew about, and few were looking to add to their collections (apparently). Luckily, I only lost $30 in the deal (could be worse...), but I am still disappointed with how it turned out.

I sold my Chinese collection about 10 years ago (all purchased from Frank Robinson in NY), and in the last 10 years I am so happy I did. The general plaque of fake Chinese coins has affected even the good stuff, as so many buyers (like me) had a really tough time finding the scarce and rare pieces and not having to worry about the authenticity. There have been a few times that I've checked for a couple of the rulers I never owned to see what ebay was doing, and each time I have I've been scared away again. I know I could go back and start over with Frank, but at the end of the day I'm glad I have nothing from China left.
