Yeah, I've been looking at that one for some time now. It would fit perfectly in my 1859 collection!

I'd never buy an AU pattern, unless it was a Gobrecht dollar. The patterns did not circulate in general, so, like commems, they should all be 63-67.
Rest in Peace

Patterns are so strange. There are very few of them (in comparison to "normal" coins), there are very few collectors, yet the prices are usually up in the stratosphere (as they deserve).

I've wanted a few in my year sets, too, but the ones that are in a reasonable price range (according to me) usually have some problems, including circulation. I watch them, but I've only actually been able to land a couple into the boat.

One thing besides outright rarity that contributes to the high cost of patterns is, unlike regular issues, many collectors would simply like to own a pattern - ANY pattern - regardless of denomination, size, or metallic content.

I saw a PCGS PR55 Gobrecht last night for $13.8k and wished I could afford it.

Gary Adkins had a nice Gobrecht dollar at MSNS last month. It was circulated. I didn't ask how much. I had a friend who's dad kept a holed Gobrecht dollar as his pocket piece and he passed it onto him when he died. Then it was my friends pocket piece.
