I found this quarter and really didn't notice the lines on the obverse until I looked at the back when the line from the eagles head to the edge of the coin clearly stood out. I looked longer at it and noticed much more lines. Obverse; The line from the hair into the R,then noticed the faint, but there line. From the bottom of the hair to the edge of the coin.Reverse; As stated the line from the Eagles head to the edge of the coin, the line from one of the leaves through the "U" to the edge of the coin,The L line. In on of the pictures it appears there is a line from the bottom of the D to the edge. Then the lump to the left of the Eagle. Thanks for looking ! Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Have a good one!

Cool example of the process of die failure. Not any real premium on this coin, just cool to see. This die set, if not replaced soon after this coin was struck was well on it's way to serious breaks. The obverse is showing the formation of two arcs from rim to rim and will eventually break. The anvil (obverse) die will probably be retained and make some really cool messy coins. Thanks for the pics.

BTW, I can't tell about the obverse, but other than a few nicks this coin is in nice shape for a 1998. I would hang on to it anyway. It only costs 25 cents to keep.

Looks like it might be an eye?

Jovian I agree with you. This to me is a very cool coin and is going into the collection of "cool coins"
Coop,I also thought it was an eye,,but I don't have the software for overlay yet!
But it appears coins of this era all cracked in the same spots,or close to it. Here is a 96' example I found last night!
