"Making it easier" is something
ebay tends to have a Microsoft-mindset about. IN other words, they make things "simpler" by requiring more time and more clicks to get the job done.
I was on
ebay in '98 as a seller. Instead of having to select everything you wanted before typing the info in, you just filled the info into the proper places onscreen. In other words, for Buy It Now or Auction choices, you simply typed your prices into the appropriate box and the other box would then not allow input in it. There was a lot less clicking, selecting, and time taken per post.
ebay back then also did not have shareholders and so prices were a lot less. This is the system that grew them into the giant they are.
Its a shame they did not keep it this way. People starting on
ebay nowadays don;t understand why the older sellers are upset with the system. That's because they did not know the
ebay of almost 20 years ago now. It cost a lot less for a seller to make a lot more money.
As just one example, you could personally contact anyone on
ebay. But when the shareholders came in, they figured they were likely not getting money from everything that happened as a result of their website - so they shut down people being able to contact one another and said it was for safety to the buyer and seller. Yes - it WAS their right to do so.
ebay had been functioning great and was still growing by (amazing) leaps and bounds. They were drawing in so many new sellers b/c they were making sure they kept the sellers happy with such a great opportunity. Anyone could make extra money.
And although anyone can still use
ebay to make extra money, the profit level for the user of the site is a lot less than what it used to be.
