Have you ever successfully warned an ebay bidder of forgery/fraud?

I realize that now ebay hides the identities of every bidder until the auction closes. But, in the past I used to warn bidders of outright forgeries where they stood to lose hundreds of $.

While it lasted, this was a fun and rewarding diversion Now and then, I'll take a moment to contact winning bidders when they stand to lose a lot of money. However, I'm not sure my emails go through anymore--even after the auction has closed. Is this just a waste of time, or has anyone had success in contacting a winner--and saving them $?

All the time. Here is a recent reply from someone...

quote:
WOW! I feel like an idiot. You're an awesome person and all I can do is thank you for the heads up. I've already written to the seller and demanded a full refund or I would contact ebay and show them the proof of his lies in his auction description(s). I'll follow through, whereas with you help, I would have never known. I sincerely appreciate the email and it will stay with me, meaning the email goes no further than where you sent it. You have my word on that! Again, thank you and I only wish there were more honest people like you in this world. I wish you continued success on your coin collecting hobby, which I've loved for over thirty-five years now. And, I've made a ton of money without even trying. Have a great weekend and please remember that this seller's Karma is ruined. I believe in what comes around..goes around and his is on the way. Again, thanks!
Sincerely,

isn't there something in ebay's rules against warning a bidder about an item or seller? I thought I saw that rule one time.

I never warn the bidders any more. I report the auction to ebay and get it removed. They have been really responsive to reports of fakes.
