This 1837 Matron Head, with a hole full of sand, was part of an unlabeled, jumbled mix of U.S. and foreign coins, minted from 1774-2009, which I found in a small cardboard box in my parents' house after they passed away. It was quite a challenge for me to make sense of the coins but, thanks in large part to Coin Community members, I have identified and categorized all of them! To celebrate, I'm offering this coin to whomever comes closest to guessing the number of coins in the box, which was 6.5" x 4" x 1.5" (approx. 17cm x 10.3cm x 3.3cm). Hint: It wasn't full. Contest ends in 48 hours or after 24 guesses, whichever comes first! Have fun and guess even if you don't want the coin! Edited by Monnaie 12/13/2016 7:47 pm

I will not take advantage of you not mentioning how many times we could guess.
But if it would work I'd guess between 1 and 789.

LOL! No, moxking, that's not an eligible guess!
Everyone's limited to one guess. If someone wants to pick a number that's already been guessed, that's okay. I have some extra giveaways in case of a tie.

I don't want to make it too easy, but so far the guesses are on the low side (Spence, timnic and moxking, you may guess again. No more hints, I promise!)

No one has guessed the correct number yet, but some are quite close

Assuming that the box was full and each coin was the size of a quarter, with no air between the coins, the box would have 790 coins. Of course, with the specs you mentioned, I cannot say the number is nearly that high. I'm going to take the amount of air and the fullness of the box in comparison.
My final guess is 269 coins.
