I just noticed I have this 1843 Half Dollar and noticed that some of the letters on the rev are connected. Not sure if this is something common or if it's a know varity any help is much appreciated

Looks to be a die chip. There also seems to be some weird stuff going on around the eagle's head and in the left field.

Circular die crack and a die chip on the two devices. Some years have this circular die crack. On that comes to mint is the 1883 nickel:

Appears to be a lovely example for the type but circular die cracks rarely add value, although they might help identify a variety.

Agree die chips are the likely culprit on the original half.

It has a die crack that begins at the rim above M goes from the rim to the Mat the top of the left upright and then continues through the tops of the letters MERIC. The edges of the crack have chipped away between ER creating that "lump" on the crack. There may be a very fine crack from the point of that lump up to the rim, and it looks like the crack might just extend very finely through the A to the rim at the third dentical to the right of the A. Can't be sure about that last part.
