Does anyone have information about American Coin Grading Service, Inc.?
I know they were in business in 1985, but little else, and would like to learn more.
Thanks.

Sounds like a basement slabber. Have you googled it?

I googled. Nothing.
The sealed package includes coin, certificate, obverse and reverse photos, description and guarantee.
The grading is consistent with current standards.
Further data indicates they are from Atlanta, GA.
I'm wondering if they were bought out by one of the other TPG.

John, this is a start, and I appreciate your help.

I don't have much of a business education, so I don't know what paperwork was filed.
But if paperwork was filed in Aug. 31 of 2001 for a company that was 15 years and 4 months old, I assume the company started in April of 1986.
My document is dated prior to that, so I'm guessing Roger Conda of Tuscon, AZ purchased the company after it produced my TPG packet on July 25, 1985.

I can take photos if needed, these are just scans.

I found a few references to them on other, older forums. I can't imagine them (or any lower-tier grader/slabber) being bought out -- as a service provider, they wouldn't have many tangible assets or intellectual property.

But the 1985 date is interesting; could be a different company.

The reference to the company being "15 years and 4 months old" is its current age, based on when the paperwork was filed with Arizona.

I'm still betting it's a different company. And in fact, just after I typed that, I found this:

Quote:
My guess is that this company morphed into Independant Grading Service. The certificates of the two companies are nearly identical, the only difference being the portrait of Washington on this certificate and the Loupe logo in the same location on the IGS certificate. Also the disclaimer on the back label of both certificates is identical. Both companies were from Atlanta GA, and the same post office. The only difference being different PO Boxes. This certificate is dated May of 1986, the earliest IGS certificates seen are dated Nov 1986. IGS disappeared in Feb 1987.

Thanks again. This may be a longer term project than I expected. But worth the effort.
