Hello, My Grandfather left me a bunch of coins in 2x2's and loose and in albums. This is one. I know this can not be a 1933 or a 1938 because it is a Philadelphia mint. The nickel has been struck through or has post minting damage, of which I do not know. I can not see a 1935 turning to this, I would appreciate some ideas.

Wow, that's some nasty hit!
I agree it's probably 1935, but who knows really.

Can you show photos of the complete obverse and reverse?
Those pits and the "extended" F of FIVE on the reverse has my paranoia alarm ringing.

Maybe a 36. The first 3 looks more like this one. Then the metal would have moved to cover the upper leg of the 6?

When you say alarm ringing, I do not understand? Is it a fake coin?

I have no doubt this is a genuine coin of some date.

I'm in the 1935 camp, with the top bar of the 5 displaced to the NE by a hit. to the CCF!

Yes, looks like a 35 with a well placed hit. Those two stabs on the reverse had me thinking cast until you posted the full photos showing those two holes also being well placed for metal displacement.
