So I'm wondering if any one can identify what veriety the coin is ----------this may be tuff- but coin has two sides with hints of info

I think that it is a 1797, but I will need to look at my Cohen book to give you the variety. I know that it's not #1.

For someone trying to fill holes in a type set and they have little care for the grade it might be worth $40.

The die variety of this piece is 1797 Cohen 3. There is a slight chance that this is rare edge marking variety. The Cohen 1797 3c variety has the "gripped edge" which is quite rare. Even in this condition, the coin would be worth probably a few hundred dollars to a specialist collector. The gripped edge has "raised bumps of a regular pattern" around the edge of the rim.
