This is another purchase from the Vernisage. Different seller, IIRC, but much the same reason - I wanted something interesting. Sadly I can't even figure out which writing system it's in (if any), never mind the period. I highly suspect Indian origin though - nobody else was really making thick square copper. One side is really intriguing - made me suspect Kushan! The other side looks Arabic, though. Probably India either way. Square side is 17 mm, thickness about 2 mm, no idea of weight, sorry. (Also, the same smartphone camera as in the other thread.) I've rotated the images to where I think the correct orientation is, but it could easily be wrong anyway. (If it helps, the upper right corners of my pics are opposite each other.) Any ideas what exactly this thing is, or at least which century it's from? Sorry for the awful condition (and the rather bad photos, though given the condition they didn't hide much) - but I hope it will be possible to guess anyway. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I would agree Indian, but my money is on either Mughal or a later princely state. Can't articulate which, but my square Indian ancients tend to be relatively thin and roughly cut, whereas yours is thick and seems to have rounded corners.
I think this is a question for drnsreedhar.

I agree most likely from one of the later Indian states and not ancient.

I didn't get an answer last time - would those better pics help? (In this forum? Probably not. But one can always hope.)

Yes, I don't think that he trolls around looking for coins to help identify, but others have reached out to him via PM successfully.

Coming back with a fresh pair of eyes, the obverse has the Ujjain symbol, which would mean Satavahana empire, 150 BC - 250 AD. I think I see some archaic Brahmi above it. Not a whole lot to go on, but it's a start.

Not a whole lot to go on, but it's a start. I thought it might have been an archaic Indian script, which is why I put it in the Ancients subforum originally. I didn't recognize the Ujjain symbol, but it sure does look like one! Can't find anything remotely resembling a match for the rest, however.
