Well, I can finally make this post because the saga has finally come to a close. When the US Mint issued the 30th Anniversary ASE I ordered one; in fact, due to a mistake, I ordered two. So, in mid-September UPS shows up with two parcels. Interestingly, *one* of them had brokerage fees, so I politely declined that one, and asked for it to be returned. It took a half dozen calls to UPS and two calls to the US Mint (and also starting a dispute against the US Mint on my credit card because I'd actually already gone past the 30-day period they want disputes filed within) and *six weeks* before UPS managed to return the package. It then took an additional half dozen calls to the US Mint, and an additional *six weeks* before I finally got a credit on my credit card. I'm also out about $1 because, presumably, of different exchange rates that the credit-card won't credit me for... unless I open a dispute against the Mint. Well, thanks for all the grief, US Mint. "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." Err, or something like that.

Were these packages shipped to Canada?
I'm sorry, but I didn't exactly follow when you said that you ordered one and by a mistake ordered two. So did you actually order the two to be shipped to you, both of them arrived, and one of them had customs duty?
You returned one and had to wait forever to get a refund?

I think that's the issue but not sure why only one had duty on it...
Since you actually DID order two coins then I would have either kept both or returned one (after accepting both packages). More control when you return a package yourself.

Ouch. Quote: I would have either kept both or returned one (after accepting both packages). More control when you return a package yourself. Tough choice. I assume this was avoided since shipping back to the US would be rather costly. How much was it to get each to Canada?

The US Mint should have a "Hazardous to your Wealth" caution label on all of its offerings.

Yes, Moxking, that's basically it... this all began back in September... I only just got the refund a few days ago. The reason I ordered two was an issue with their weird website... I thought I only ordered one, but on the day of release got the news that two items had shipped to me (yes, in Canada). When UPS showed-up at my door it was with two identical shipments, save the fact that on one they'd tagged their brokerage fees (something they seem to do to about 50% of anything they carry, which is why I avoid using them). I have to admit though, it was funny to see how obviously scammy their brokerage fee is, with the clear evidence right in my face that two identical packages from the same shipper to the same receiver on the same day at the same time got different treatment.... So, in a way, it was a convenient excuse to return the coin I didn't particularly want anyway and I took it; I asked the delivery guy to send it back... https://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking...3W040354199719 September I refused the package.... 28 October UPS Managed to get it back to the Mint at the wrong location, according to the Mint staff I was speaking with... (even though when it went to the right location it was refused and re-directed, as seen in the secondary tracking (follow the original tracking above to the secondary tracking number and 'view the details' to see that weirdness.) It wasn't until mid-December and countless phone calls to the Mint, UPS and my credit-card company before the Mint finally issued a refund, and they were too lazy to properly date it, so now I get to eat the exchange fees from my credit-card. ...pathetic customer service from all involved...

JBuck, in Canadian funds it came to just under $80 for a single proof.

Sorry for all your troubles NeoSpec. Seems like things go right almost all the time but when 1 thing goes wrong it's usually followed by several more.

Sorry for your trouble NeoSpec I wish the Mint had represented us better. Quote: "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
Err, or something like that. I GET IT!
