to the forum!

That is a 1982-D LARGE date cent.

It may be Copper or Copper plated Zinc. Weigh it to know which it is. A Zinc cent weighs 2.5 grams and a Copper cent weighs 3.11 grams.

There were seven different varieties of Lincoln cents released for circulation in 1982, plus one Proof cent minted in San Francisco marked with an S mint mark.

If there ever was a one-reply-needed topic, this is it. Thanks for the thorough evaluation cwb!

Curiously enough, I was hunting tonight and weighing 82s and 83s. I found both a copper and zinc 82-P and looked in my newly acquired Red Book finding the large and small date pictures.

From that, I guessed large date on this one. For my specimens tonight and chrisnheidi's the lowest point of the 8 was the most obvious difference using the ends of the 1 as reference to the naked eye.

This is a page I made for the 1982 Lincoln cents: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/1...20Cents.html
It has images of the seven different varieties along with the S Proof.

To CCF to both! To answer the OP's question, you have a Large Date Cent.

Are any of the 82 copper coins valuable? What I understood from the video I was watching is that only double struck ones are..
I ended up with 5 copper & 1 zinc weighed them on a gold scale.
Thanks!

FYI, you should post your own topic if you have a question. Valuable ones include Wexlers Doubled Die Obverses ( WDDOs fetch a small amount FYI) The 1982-D Small date copper is a VERY valuable one, and any major-ish mint error can fetch more than face value. I will put a link to WDDOs for 1982 and 1982-D below:

If you have any more questions let us know. We are happy to help!

Errers and Varietys,

Why did you post to a 2 year old thread?
