I am at a point for my Dansco Morgan albums, if a better
coin comes along at a good deal, I will pick them up.

I traded this one today .. for a set of Ike dollars, no proofs.

It is not perfect .. but better than my pictures show.

I think it is interesting that it will replace the Ike place
holder I was using. (It was holding a place for a GSA 1883 CC)

If you are happy with it, that's what matters. The obverse is not my favorite, although the reverse is lovely. You should show us what you are upgrading from. I would find that comparison interesting.

Appears to have a lot of "noise" on the cheek.
I think it would keep it to an MS-62.

I have a habit of just putting the coin under a bright light and snapping
the picture. I know I need to use better lighting and play with the settings.

This coin looks better in hand, but would agree ...

Most likely a MS 62 ... maybe MS 63 on a good day.

--------------

I wanted this coin because I was counting GSA 1883 CC that I do not
want to break out of the GSA holder ... I might have two 1883 GSA's
so it is hard to think about buying another for the Dansco. But sometimes
it is hard to say no to a good deal.

---------------------

Your right Cascade ..... at least to me it is a good deal. I had less than $50
into the Ike's. It was a three way deal ... one guy wanted a set of Ike's,
one wanted some cash ... I was willing to take the Morgan.

-------------------
When I started the full Morgan set, I picked up any coin to fill empty holes.
Most of them are circulated ... some are coins with problems. I am down
to needing one coin, 1893 S.

I am thinking collectors have different styles on how they purchase coins.
Many times it will depend on how much funds a collector is able to spend,
and the availablity of coins.

I guess what I am saying .. some may not agree .. or understand my style
of collecting ... but for me it works. I think I have built a foundation of a
good collection. My primary decision is to get coins at good prices.
Most of my coins I feel I could sell for more than I pay for them.

If I had a complete set of Morgan's, that looked just like this coin, I would be very happy.

After typing that last reply .... I picked up the album to look at my new coin.

As coinfrog posted .. .. I agree in hand .. this is a solid MS 63 coin.

The Cannon 100m macro lens.. with bright light is not getting me pictures
I like. I might have to try again tomorrow ... with natural light.

It is a later die state with extensive clash, which may account for some of the appearance. Looks MS63 to me, and attractive, and a great hole filler, although jbuck might not concur.

Very nice three way trade. I like your philosophy of picking up coins at a good price. Agree that it's a solid MS-63. Looks like a VAM-8A.

I am thinking I was not to clear ....

I have this GSA

1883-CC-Morgan-For-My-Dansco

1883-CC-Morgan-For-My-Dansco

I use this as a place holder .. instead of cracking out the GSA

1883-CC-Morgan-For-My-Dansco

I thought having another 1883 CC would be better than the Ike
place holder.
Rest in Peace

Thanks for posting that GR58. I'm always interested in the different processes of collecting. Creativity and collecting are actually linked by many studies.

Wow, you got that one cheap! I'd love to do trades. It's a lot more fun than just buying, unless I get a really good deal on a cherry pick.

Unless your Ikes were all MS65 you got a real good deal on that 83CC. On the 93-S what grade are you holding out for before you pull the trigger? If you could get one in EF with a little luster left that is not too worn that would be a fine in my book. What is the general condition of your set as a whole? I am tryin to bring my Morgan set up to at least no coin less than EF. I have 8 to go and they are all the expensive ones and I would be happy to get all of them in AU. What would an AU58 93-S cost? AU50 is $20,000 and MS60 is $120,000 in round numbers. If I sold some stock I might be able to afford the 93-S in AU, but who is to say it does not sit at that price for the next 20 years? Coins don't pay dividends or interest, and they do go down in price sometimes. Maybe you could trade some of your more easily replaced coins to get the 93-s in the best condition you could possibly afford? It is said that the really scarce coins have the best chance of appreciation? I start to brown my shorts when I consider paying $5000 for a coin.

Sounds like you have a very nice set. My set has everything form low
grade problem coins to choice BU. Most of my coins are bought from
the coin shop that I work at. I feel I am buying the coins at good prices,
but they are not always better grade coins. I bought them if I had a empty
hole. Unless they were very bad looking ..

When better grade coins come in, I sometimes will upgrade. Album one,
is starting to have a lot more nicer coins than lower grade coins. I could
see getting album one having most of the coins XF or better. My album two
will never be as nice as album one.

I am not sure what I will do for the 93 S. I would have no problem putting
Good or Very Good Details coin into that empty hole. Getting it at a good
price will be a deciding factor.
