This is a cool one. Sometime during the blank production, possibly the rimming phase into Type II planchets, this coin had laminated and partially split, then it was struck. It weighs in at 2.9 grams.

Struck a bit off-center too. Thanks SPP. It highlights the difference expertise makes. I would have decided it was something pulled out of the clean-out pit at the recycled newspaper pulp mill I worked at in the late 1970s (i.e. env damage).
