Sry I'm using my ipad to take pics. Yes it's a 1992. From what I read a good way to confirm is the location of the initials? Is this correct?

to CCF!! & Happy Holidays. I cropped and lightened up one of your images. We could use a better close up of AMERICA, there is always the possibility. That would be a fantastic Christmas present. CoinCents gave you the best comparative photos you could find. Appears to be Wide AM, as has been mentioned. |

I'm only just beginning this journey, but go through your spare change and find a 1998-2000 penny. Chances are, it's a "close AM." If it doesn't match your '92 for all intents and purposes, then your '92 is not a "close AM." Close, from what I've seen, is the A and M are essentially touching.
Again, I'm new to this so I'm sure someone else can provide better info.
On a side note: why is it called "wide AM?" It should be more like "Normal AM". I was confused by this for a while. I thought maybe the letters were wider than normal. It seems to be mostly about spacing than anything else and a less vague term would be helpful.

Thanks for the link CoinCents. From what I understand, oldmike, both are common but certain years less so. In 1992, Close AM is much less common and in 1998-2000 Wide AM is less common. In Memory of Crazyb0 12-26-1951 to 7-27-2020
