I'm evaluating an inherited coin collection for someone I know and it contains a nine coin proof 1980 Bahamas' Proof Set (5 dollars to one cent).

I can't find any examples for sale online to get an idea of the value. I know the four silver coins have a total of about 2.87 ounces of silver, but I don't know if the set contains any value other than the silver content.

Could someone help me out? He is looking to sell the coins, most likely at our local coin store (very honest!) so I'd like to give him a rough idea of what he might be offered for it.

Thanks!

My 2010 Krause lists the 1980 9 coin proof set as
2084 sets struck, (cannot confirm, but I suspect a lot more)
issue price $145,
market value $75.

In most cases, Franklin Mint products performed poorly in the numismatic aftermarket. Krause confirms.

I wish I could tell you better news. Unfortunately, Franklin Mint killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Haven't collected NCLT since.

It was this sort of investment performance that turned me off new mint product around 30 years ago.

Thanks for the information. The person who originally bought this set also bought a number of Franklin Mint gold coins from Panama and the British Virgin Islands and similar proof set from 1980 and 1981. That's when gold and silver very high. I wonder what he paid for them back then.
