Can I get an opinion on this coin? It has a lot of wear and tear. Should I hold onto it, slab it, or have it melt down for silver content. And maybe I should resize it so it isn't so huge. But I wanted to show as much detail as I could.

G4 max. lots of rim dings and hits. Not worth slabbing. Honestly keep it as it is. I personally would never melt a Morgan dollar unless it was completely destroyed, this coin has character and was heavily circulated. Keep it as is.

Melting a morgan seems like destroying history

she did her duty for a lot of years. Most certainly not worth TPG, but much too nice to melt.

Keep it. It's not worth slabbing, but it's got so much history that melting it would be a waste. If you are just looking for a few bucks, I'm sure you could get more selling it outright as a Morgan dollar than you could selling it to be melted.

Thanks everyone, I will definitely hold onto it. Now what about the walking liberties and seated liberties? Most of the ones I have are worn down so much you can't even read the dates.

1899-P is the ballgame for collect ability - 1899-O has a 12 million + mintage and in that condition may be worth 25$ - don't waste your time or money! I'de keep it though - having any coin in your collection is better than NOT having one!

Marginal for sure, and definitely not worth having graded.

There is such a host of Morgans that are really worth holding onto such as afore mentioned 1899-P. In MS64 you can get this coin for $400 and probably less than $200 for AU and only 330,000 minted. The 1899-P sticks out like a sore thumb as being collectable. There are a bunch of Morgan-CC's which 5 times the mintage that cost as almost as much.
