Hey guys thought I'd create one last thread on this before I send my coin to PCGS. I talked to a guy today who said in his opinion the coin was a strong AU 58 especially for being a weakly struck Morgan date. As for the nick he said it's a toss up but in his opinion it should come back as a full grade. I was then offered to send my coin to PCGS through their company, which has sent thousands of coins to PCGS and the owner of the company is good friends with the VP. I still pay them to send it but no extra charges. I feel good about being able to send it through them as I trust them a lot. Anyways, I still took a new picture of the nick in relation to the whole coin... Any last thoughts anyone? Thanks so much!! This one coin has taught me endless amounts of info on coins and grading!

This sounds like you are saying that your coin has a better chance of getting a higher grade because of a personal relationship with the VP at PCGS rather than the actual state of the coin. Is this correct? I thought the point of TPG was an independent, unbiased assessment of the coin. I'm confused.

I think it will full grade, and if the company who sends it does a lot of business with PCGS, its chances of full grade will be improved. That may not seem fair, but that's business.

I thought coins submitted for TPG grading were logged in and passed to the graders with an ID number that kept the submitter anonymous. I too am confused.

By their company name I just meant that they will sort it all out for me and all I have to do is give them cash and walk away! Sounds good to me lol Pick my coin up whenever it comes back.

I think it really doesn't matter what you do - Going to grade at the most a 60 weak strike!! Probably you might be right at an AU grade - really not a big price jump from AU to low MS

I don't think the rim ding will detail the coin, but I'm not certain if the look of wear is wear or weak strike.

Especially on the eagles breast on Reverse and above and behind ear on obverse. I don't see luster breaks, but that almost always requires an in-hand examination.

Be sure to get a receipt for your coin regardless of who you give it to.

If they have the submission done, ask for a copy, if they will give you one.

I agree straight, and I must also cynically agree with Adam (paralyse).

Thanks everyone, however I was recently on another forum and posted some much better pictures overall of the coin. I will say I do not like the last picture because the flash brings out all of the negatives and leaves nothing good. I'm starting to think about holding off on having it graded after seeing some of the comments on these pictures, lemme know what you guys think!! The last picture was posted as a link due to file size. Some people were starting to worry the coin had been cleaned and that the spot on the neck of the obverse is bad. I think it's just dirt/gunk....

From your last pictures I would give it an AU55-58 straight grade. There appears to be a definite rub on her cheek. Her hair is a little worn, even for a weak strike imo.

The spot on the neck is hard to say what it is.

I would send it in if I had it.

Considering how much you paid for the coin I would definitely send it in for grading. Grading it would assure its authenticity and if you decide to sell it in the future, it will make it a lot easier to do so.

Send it in to get graded. I personally think it'll straight grade a high AU. Who knows maybe it'll squeak out a ms60/61. I'd use your connections and have them send it out for you.

You got the coin for a great price. I think I will step back for Morgans for a while. The ones I want are just too expensive. I don't see the return. I love the coins but I need to spend 15K to 20K to finish my set if I want some decent coins. I don't see it. I think it is money down a rat hole until I get some better deals.

Try a little acetone and a wood toothpick on the spot. Can't hurt.

AU-55. They will grade a coin with a rim ding if it does not extend beyond the dentils.

Got my coin to PCGS through a friends for a whopping $26.50! Awesome deal, my hope is it at least gets an AU detail slab. I pray it doesn't come back in a body bag which it very well could. However it's only $26.50 so it's worth the curiosity....
