This one is tough. I would lean more to a stain... Not fully sure

Hi ya Dustin. I see it in the raised parts where there's wear so I don't think it's a stain. I don't know if it's a Woody or not though.

If its not a stain, then I would think the alloys were not mixed properly. So I guess a woody.

The improper alloys applied to the older coins. It's been so long since I found one I can't remember what makes a Modern.

I guess the question is, is this an improper alloy mix, or struck through dirty roller marks

I remember talking with Ken or Mike about them, on clad coinage. There was something about the color changes too, but it was a good while back and it never got reinforced. lol

This article concerns cents, but it may be true for the nickels as well?

Note the flow over the planchet easily like they were there before the coin was struck. It seem they show up when the coin has the surface cartwheels gone.

Thank you Coop, that jogged my memory. It was Mike, and it was unclear what the cause was on the Modern Woodys. No wonder I couldn't remember the cause. I remember that some of the clads, also had one of a few different hues. Gray or blueish was one on a dime. I think the hues show on quite a few of them depending on the width of the stripes. My guess is some are caused by one thing and others by another. So anyway I guess I got me a nice Woody!
And yes, I agree they were there before the strike, there's little chance those lines could have been added so evenly after the strike.
