Yes! It's a real error.

More information here:http://www.error-ref.com/?s=progres...043;transfer

As for what it is really worth.... well, condition/grade matters and you need to check SOLD prices, not just asking prices.

Nice find. Hope your good luck continues!

It is an error but it isn't worth a premium. Seller is overcharging for nothing

Seller is widely off the mark on price, but these sell on ebay as Lincoln's ghost for a few dollars.
Rest in Peace

worth a couple bucks in nice looking examples. Not worth much in less than fine or so.

PIDT is extremely common on 1946-S cents. Doesn't add any value.

I see them all the time, I never knew they had any value over the date of the coin.
I guess people will buy anything if you tell them it's a rare error.
This isn't rare at all.

it is a mint error. It is caused by die attrition. The dies are gradually altered by repeated contact with planchets. The dies transfer design elements to each other right through the coins they strike. It is also referred to as Ghosting, or Internal Metal Displacement Phenomenon - depending on which expert you talk to. It's a good example of Lincoln's outline on the reverse. The price is a rip though, the dies were commonly over-used in the 40's and 50's making Ghosting errors plentiful.
