I've had this 1924 Peace since the late 90's, it's in an older PCGS slab. Anyone care to take a stab at a grade? I'll post what PCGS thought later in the week.

Based on the pics provided, MS64 possibly 65

It has a great strike though with satiny luster

Nice coin. Too bad about the rim nicks especially the big one on top.
I'll say MS63 due to those.

I should have commented on the "rim nicks". I thought the same thing the first time I saw a slab like this. On some of the old PCGS slabs there are small pieces of plastic that keep the coin from rattling around. These look like rim nicks but are not.

I'd go MS64-65 then if those are not rim nicks.

I'm going to go with MS64.

Peace dollars are real tough to grade with just a photo. I need that baby in-hand so I can see the depth of the devices when I rock the coin in the light. I'll send you my address if you'd like.

That's a nice frosty one with very little in the way on contact marks ... none visible that would downgrade the piece. The strike (especially the obverse) is better that average. The hair over the ear has lost some of its frosting and only a close exam would tell me if that was just from incidental rub. I wouldn't throw that baby out with the bathwater.

I think this coin is one that shows the relaxing of grading standards over the years. The reverse has one tiny "nick" that is slightly above & to the left of the O in ONE. The obverse has a very light scratch in the bottom of the neck, 3 very light tick marks at the end of the hair above the TRUST, all of which are visible in the picture. If you look hard enough there are also a couple marks in the hair that are visible only in hand.

PCGS graded this coin MS62 in the mid 90's. It's my coin & I may be biased, but I think it's a MS64.

trdhrdr007,

I would agree on Peace dollars that the emphasis has changed and those marks would not receive such scrutiny today. PCGS could easily call that an MS64 today with that strike and mark-free cheek/neck. It's really not worth the cost to jump from 62 to 64 ... now a 65 is a different matter.
