I am putting together a Carson City short set I call The Bonanza. The big bonanza at the Comstock lode went from 1875 to 1877. I am trying to put together a set of small denomination silver coins for these years in AU55 to AU58. The set will consist of 11 coins when complete. Dimes, Twenty Cent, Quarter, and Half Dollar. The whole thing might go AU55 at the rate I am going. I am over 50% done. Jason Edited by ParkCityBranch 01/02/2017 5:01 pm

A wonderful set which will certainly be a prize of the Old West. Congratulations on your progress. You picked a great grade range to show the beauty of all of the designs without needing a ridiculous cash amount.
I really look forward to seeing your continued progress.

Thank you for the compliments.
Question. There are a couple of MS62 to MS63 CC dimes and quarters I like. I realize it's my set but what is the opinion on having some MS coins mixed in with the AU55 and AU58's? Will that look funny and hodgepodge?

Will that look funny and hodgepodge? If I saw such a collection, without knowing anything in advance, I would think, "Cool, he must have got a good deal on those mint state dimes and quarters." In other words, I would like the collection so much that any variation would be seen (at least by me) in a positive light. ~ Mark P.S. I'm not sure if your nic refers to Park City, Utah, but if so, I have family there now, and my grandfather was a silver miner there in the 1930s. Very cool town (I also lived there for 2-3 years), although my 80-year-old mother is not fond of the "PWBs who invade Park City" in January for the Sundance Film Festival. PWB = People Wearing Black.

Nice Set so far! Good luck on the 1876 CC 20¢. Or are you not including this one?

Thanks!
Yes, my screen handle does refer to Park City, UT. One of my favorite towns and has some amazing railroad history if you do some digging. Interestingly, a lot of miners from Virginia City, NV ended up in Park City, UT after the Comstock went bust.

That's a great idea for a short set and I think a mix of au and ms is good to go. No sense letting perfect be the enemy of great!
