This coin had me scratching my head for awhile last night after winning a bid just based on the reverse. At first I thought it might be a 75 LDS or 75A, but then I got to thinking about 8A. R in trust unbroken, 4th right star is crumbled into field, 2nd left star seemingly has chips on surface, extensive die polishing on reverse and rust pitting on eagle's right upper wing/left wreath. Reverse is semi-PL. I do not see a die chip on the cap or in the cap fold. Not sure what's going on with the eye area -- looks like the overpolishing. I cannot tell doubling on LIBERTY from seller's pictures, or if ear has a chip. A little assistance would be welcomed. Attaching pictures, smaller and larger. A few things on this coin don't add up - Anybody else thinks it's a counterfeit? Just throwing out a debatable thread? Hair lines and eagle feathers look good though!

Mark1959, this coin is most definitely not a counterfeit. Thank you for your opinion, however.

I took a look at the listings for a while last night and ended up finding one possibly two reverse dies that seem to match the "engraved feather". I'll have another look this evening but it sure would be nice to have a clear picture of the obverse mainly LIBERTY.

If I can't improve it in Photoshop tonight without it getting pixelated I'll snap some shots with the microscope when it is in hand.

Let us know what it looks like when in hand. I love these mystery coins myself. Although it's not really necessary, I see nothing indicating a counterfeit.

I'm not positive Adam, but I think it may be a 42A.

If you find the VAM and those polishing lines aren't already listed it should qualify as a new sub-variety if you send it to LVA

I checked out 42A last night, it looks promising but not exact; going to get some scope pictures etc. with coin in hand

Yup. Its 42A. Although the LFCP's on the listing are a slightly advanced die state. Could be a 42 though if there's no ST clashing
