I bought nothing but I sat through the whole thing. The auctioneers were exhausted but troopered on. It was sad how tired they seemed. Ended after midnight in the east coast after more than 6 hours. Remember thinking that I can't wait til its over. Also realized that I have to buy my early dollars at auction... towards the end when everyone seems to have run out of money...  We should pool our money and buy the Farouk/Norweb 1884 Trade dollar.

Ditto here. They had way too many items in the pm session. The day session only took 3 hours.  You are spot on about the early dollars. I won one of them. I'll post later. I still have more bidding to do.

Nice one Andrew. I got my rear handed to me on all of the measly 11 lots I thought I had a chance at. Near the end, I even bid on a couple I didn't anticipate would be so low, but couldn't get into bidding much on coins I hadn't researched as much as I'd have liked.
When folks are saying we are doomed, it sure doesn't look like it from an auction like this one.

I had to watch until midnight as the dollars went down last. It was a long session. I wish I could have bought more as some pieces were attractively priced, but I've got a FUN budget I'm nearing and a few more bids in a later session.

It killed me to sit through the early large cents and half dollars while waiting for the dollars. And after all that waiting, I only won 1 coin. Hindsight's 20/20 but I wish I wouldn't bid on some of those early coins.

Nice pickups Andrew, I was tracking about 40 lots for curiosity purposes but sat out on the bidding. I'm just a newbie, maybe next year.

The AU-53 sold for well below AU money. It is a technical 53, but it is too bright, the surfaces have a lot of marks including a deep dig below the ribbon as well as in the right obverse field, there are ugly adjustment marks across the face. It went for a problem free XF-45 price. The real question is what happened with the AU-50. The AU-50 looks original, has smooth surfaces, and no adjustment marks. It is a solid AU. Still, it was the best example of this coin during FUN, so there must have been competition for it. I had it going for around $12,500. Maybe somebody thought it would 55 today.

Some advice for success in these things: Plan for a major auction at least a month in advance. Watch everything you like. Order them by lot # as that is the order you will have to face. Decide the most you want to pay with buyer premium and add 10% to it so you won't be sorry if you lose anything. Wait until 1 hour before the auction and send your bids by Live Proxy. Sending live bids well before the auction is just a way of telegraphing to everyone just how high they have to go to beat you. Plan your if-then strategy in advance so that no decisions have to be made while the auction is live. You don't need to wait another year. The Long Beach auction is partially up already and will be fully up by the end of January.
