I was give this by my father and cannot determine if this is a coin or token of some sort. It was found in the general area where I found a 1887 sitting liberty dime.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@stewartj, first welcome to CCF. Second, can please also post a pic of the other side? A weight and diameter might be useful too.

Welcome to the CCF, Stewart ....

Is the other side blank? A pic is needed, if so.

This looks to be a mid to late 1800's token of sorts, counterstamped. Lacking more identifying info, like a name or town, it'll likely otherwise be a maverick.
Rest in Peace

Certainly a token rather than a Coin, but I'm betting those counter stamps are early. Weight and measure would help a lot as it might even be a large cent replacement as in the Hard Times tokens.

Let us know if the other side is blank, or provide a photo please.

I'll try to get the info and post back on here thanks for all of the help so far, and I am sure my father would also appreciate it.

It is definitely blank on the other side, and was found in Goodlettsville, Tn.
The Dime I found was dated 1887 and was found in the same general vicinity.
