Hey everyone. First of all, I'm new to CC. I'm 29 and from a rural town in upstate NY. Anyways, I recently received this 2016 Harpers Ferry ATB Quarter from the grocery store and when I looked it over, it caught my eye (mainly the mint mark and "Harper's Ferry" on the reverse). Thoughts?

to CCF. Looks like a worn die and maybe some Machine Doubling. Not a doubled die, sorry.

Funny you post this. I have 21 different Harpers Ferry quarters that are all different. I'm trying to get the pictures together and will hopefully post later today. Note I don't believe any of them would be considered errors, just varieties.

Cory - Yes, I agree looks like a worn die. The Ill ATB Shawnee quarters & the LA Kisatchie quarters in particular have gotten much worse than your Harper's Ferry - some get pretty crazy looking where it looks like a triple. Keep up the hunt and hope you continue to post.

Cory: On the ATB (America-The-Beautiful) quarters the reverse devices on the outer circle on the reverse are incuse (sunk into the coin) elements. Raised on the die, the slightest movement will alter the devices creating Machine Damage on them. This will enlarge them and make them look like a doubled die, but they are not? Because a doubled die has the doubling on the die. On MD this happens from a normal die, but the machine damages the devices mechanically. So they are not doubled dies, but often look like them. They can look like these:

The devices are raised on the die and the slightest die movement before or after can alter these devices. I see a bit of distortion on your coin as well. On incuse devices the ball game is just opposite the raised devices for doubled dies.
