I'm going about it fairly slow and steady. I've done 26 rolls. No more silver yet but I did find a 1940. I've got probably 40+ dates w/ multiple MMs set aside. I plan on going through the whole box, upgrading and adding to what I have laid out, then filling holes at the end. I'll update with pics and holes filled then. Thanks everyone!

I did four rolls tonight that turned out to be productive. I found a 1938-p and a 1939-p! I have four rolls left before finishing this box. So with a grand total of 54 rolls searched (including loose rolls from before), I have 55 dates with multiple MM's set aside. I'm really looking forward to filling out that album! No Buffalos or Liberty's yet, but the search continues...

I have a nearly complete circulated set of Jeff nickels. Oddly enough, I'm only missing 2009-P and 2009-D. Maybe not so oddly, that was a low mintage year for nickels and dimes. A couple varieties to watch for while you are searching are: the rare 1943/2 overdate, 1945-P Doubled Die Reverse, and 1939 with a reverse of 1940 (I have one of these and could post pics if need be). Quote:In 1939 the Mint modified the reverse design of the Jefferson nickel so that the 1939 Jefferson nickels come in two varieties. Variety 1 is usually described as the "Reverse of 1938" (Wexler JNRD-001) and is best recognized by steps on Monticello that are not well defined and sometimes described as "wavy". Variety 2 is usually described as the "Reverse of 1940" (Wexler JNRD-002) and it has very sharp, well defined steps on Monticello. Both of these varieties are normal for the 1939 Jefferson nickels including the 1939 proof nickels, although the proof nickels with the reverse of 1940 are such scarcer than those with the reverse of 1938.

Nice Project. I just went back through my Jefferson nickel album last week and updated the last of them. I think I am through now. It just took a few years to get all in BU or near BU coins. It was a fun trip. I may have to start another one.

I looked into my nickel stash and I had 8 tubes of 1940s and 1950s circulated nickels that I pulled from pocket change over the years. I had a hunch that I had a lot of Jeffs you needed, so I dumped one tube out and found a half dozen hole fillers for your album. I'm too lazy to go through the other tubes, but if you want these six nickels, you can have them for free.

Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind. I actually just purchased a few old incomplete Whitman folders a couple days ago so I'll see where I'm at after I get them.

Well, I sorted through the folders I purchased. I was able to fill quite a few holes including all of the War Nickels except for the '44-s (all in fairly poor shape as expected). I believe this set was being put together in the late '50s-early 60s so I also got some very nice early '60s that may be high AU-MS. They stopped with a 1970 so only the first three pages have been added to. So, by my count, I have 18 unfilled holes without proofs. Here are the additions: Time to rustle up another box!

Nice album Although I currently use Dansco Albums, I still love the look of a Whitman album/folder.

Yep, certainly a "Doh!" moment. Looking at it in the pics, I have a feeling that I won't be able to stick to no proofs. If I found some in rolls I would be very pleasantly surprised! I don't think I would be able to satisfyingly look through the album and see those 30+ years of S nickels missing. I'm officially down the rabbit hole. But, I like rabbits.

Quote: Although I currently use Dansco Albums, I still love the look of a Whitman album/folder. I chose it to correlate with the cool tones of the nickels. If (when) I start a Lincoln Cent album, I'll go for the Dansco to match warm tones. It's kind of like people's eye color "changing" depending on what they're wearing. I like the nickels wearing Whitman and I think I'll like the Lincolns wearing Dansco Gold Label Couture.
