I have read that the engraver for this piece, GM Monassi, was the chief engraver for the Italian State Mint for many years, and that some of his work is in various museums in Italy and elsewhere. Given that, does this piece have value above and beyond its melt value?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Very nice medal, it must be quite large and "heavy" at 137.5 grams (over 4 troy oz.)

This is a set of 5 medals, all of the same design, but different sizes.

I'm not very experienced in foreign gold, but I would think that would have some sort of premium over the melt value? How much of a premium is beyond my knowledge, but that's certainly a nice piece of gold!

@bobisgr8, as these are medals (not coins), you may have better luck asking the mods to move your thread to the tokens and medals area of CCF. This isn't my area so I can't tell you who might pay over melt for this set. It is pretty cool by the way.

I sent a note to Staff yesterday about relocating this topic but have gotten no reply and, since this topic is still here, I guess it's in the right place. This forum is, after all, World Coins and Commemoratives.

the value is easy to know , it is 999 % gold , look for the gold price on internet , then go to a goldshop and ask the price they want to give . It will be a lot of money , but I do not know when byou bought it because the goldprice is changing every day . albert

Yes, I understand and have experience doing that. My question was this: do these medals have any value as collectibles, i.e., a value above just the value of the gold.
