Hey guys I'm looking for opinions on this Gaudens. I think I might be able to score it for a decent price. It is in an old "3rd Party Grader" holder probably from the 90s. Trying to tell if it is at least not cleaned from the pics. Not sure if that's possible with just these 2 pics or not. Thanks in advance!

You posted a picture of a 1924 Saint. Is it the coin you're considering?

Run Forest Run, the coin holder is from a basement Third Party Grader. The grade on the holder means nothing. The coin looks AU. The 1924 is the most common date in the series as PCGS and NGC have graded over half million 1924's. If you want a 24, buy a NGC or PCGS in MS63 or MS64. If you want a collectible coin, pick another date.

Given the small premiums that are charged for common date St. Gaudens $20 gold coins in NGC and PCGS holders, I can't see why you would be fooling around with a coin in a fly by night grader's holder which is the same thing as a raw coin. For what it's worth the coin looks to be dull, washed and probably an AU with a whisp of wear.

Here's one that is housed in an NGC MS-63 holder. This coin is more liquid when it comes time to sell than one in an "Uncle Elmer's" holder that means nothing to anyone.

AU-58, just a pre-33 bullion coin.

For the grade, I would think AU-58.
