Hey everyone, I've had this 1983 coin for a while just because it looked strange. I'm not sure if it's just worn or if it's anything else?
Thanks in advance!!

Thanks Jamesd I was wondering what it was.what would make a coin break like that?
The edges don't look rounded or bent. It looks like it broke off.
There's drops of copper scattered all over it. Cold it have been minted that way?

Zinc rot. In 1983 there were still quite a few issues with the copper plating process for the cents. All it takes is a little hole in the copper to allow air in, and the zinc will start to ozidize and break through the copper plating. Spend it before it rots away entirely!

A bad case of zinc rot and it probably caused that chunk to completely break off on the rim.
