Good afternoon everyone,
I have keep my spare change every since the new quarters program started (1999). I just wanted to ask you all as to what it's worth keeping. Should I keep old quarters, dimes and so on? Please advise...

Thank you

Have you already searched them for the DDR varieties?

Well some of the DDR's (if found) can be worth some money if you sold them on ebay. All depends on how much time you want to put into them. There are websites to help you on what to look for (so that really helps). If it were me I would first separate them by state and from there pull out the ATB Quarters for 1 stack leaving the State Quarters. Then when you go to these websites (we can give a list of them) you can go through all the same quarters at one time and it makes it go a lot faster and you get more familiar with them.

Don't know if you sell on ebay or not.

What are you collecting right now?
Do you use and eye loupe, USB microscope etc ?

I really don't collect anything I just started saving my change and it's getting to the point that I have to do something with it. I do use a loupe. I don't sell or buy on ebay. I have run across quarters from the 90's that look brand new and I thought I may ask if they are worth saving. Thank you for the info. I'll give a try and see what I can find.

Here are some links for the DDO - Doubled Die Obverse (front) and DDR -Doubled Die Reverse (back).

Below are some specific links for the quarters I have been mentioning - just choose the state -(if you are looking for a specific state and it is not listed then there are no varieties for that state). It would really help for you look at all the links for the quarters so you can get familiar with what you are looking at.

Tip if you have Wisconsin quarters I would check those out first. Look for what is the the Extra High Leaf / Extra Low leaf or some even have both.
Here is a link to the ebay page with some of those listing so you can see what I am referring to.

Also, if you want to see if any of your coins have silver content then the Coin Trackers Website has a great tool on their website and you will have your answer is just seconds. It is always good to save coins with Silver Content as they are worth more than face value.

Collect what you like to collect! The whole point in having a hobby is to enjoy it!

Me, I save the wheat cents and pre-1960 nickels. And silver coins of course.

Well ok, look for varieties was already mentioned. How much time you spend is up to you.

I would first pull out any silver coins: 1964 and older dimes, quarters, and halves (90%), War Nickels (35%), and Kennedy halves 1965-1970 (40%). I keep all wheat back Lincoln cents. Some people keep all cents older than 1982 (copper). I keep nickels older than 1960. I keep all Ike dollars too.

I also save the better grade Lincoln bicentennial cents and westward journey nickels. You decide if you want to collect state and America the Beautiful Quarters.
